Man arrested after crashing car into gates of Downing Street where UK prime minister lives
As of now, it is not clear whether or not the crash was deliberate and police are investigating.
A man was arrested in central London Thursday after crashing his car into the gates of Downing Street where Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's home and offices are located.
Local police said the man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving and so far there are no reports of injuries.
The prime minister was in his office at the time, according to The Associated Press.
As of now, it is not clear whether or not the crash was deliberate and police are investigating.
“I heard a bang and looked up and saw loads of police with taser guns shouting at the man,” a witness said, according to the AP. “A lot of police vehicles came very quickly and were very quick to evacuate the area.”
Video footage from social media shows a silver car driving towards the gates at low speed across Whitehall, which is the main thoroughfare in London’s government district.
This is a developing story.
