Memphis police officer in critical condition from multiple gunshot wounds

A Memphis police officer was shot multiple times Monday night and is now in critical condition, authorities said Tuesday morning.

The officer was shot at about 9:15 p.m. while responding to a report about a suspicious vehicle at a gas station. When the officer attempted to make contact with the person in the vehicle, they exchanged gunfire, authorities said.

The suspect in the incident was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene, the according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The suspect at first fled to a nearby business and was later found by officers in an idling vehicle where he was pronounced deceased.
