North Dakota shooting leaves 1 police officer dead and 2 injured
Updated: Fargo police have identified the officers who were shot.
One police officer was killed and two were injured in a shooting in Fargo, North Dakota on Friday.
Authorities say that the suspect was killed during the incident and one civilian was also injured.
Around 3 p.m. on Friday, the man opened fire on police officers, which resulted in the officers shooting back, witnesses say. The deceased suspect was identified by police as 37-year-old Mohamad Barakat of Fargo, according to CBS.
“This is very difficult on all of us. We are releasing as much information as we can at this point,” Fargo Police spokesman Gregg Schildberger said, according to The Hill. “We appreciate all the messages from the community that have been given to us in support of our officers.”
Fargo police have identified the officers who were shot, CBS also reports. The deceased officer was identified as 23-year-old Jake Wallin, who had only been a police officer since April and who served in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
"The two wounded officers were identified as Andrew Dotas, a six-year veteran of the department, and Tyler Hawes, who had also just joined Fargo police in April."
According to a Facebook statement from the Fargo Police Department, the two officers that were injured are in critical condition.
