San Francisco 49ers receiver Ricky Pearsall was released Sunday from the hospital after being shot in the chest on Saturday during an attempted robbery in San Francisco.
Pearsall’s mother, Erin Pearsall, posted on Facebook that the bullet “exited out his back” but missed his vital organs, according to the New York Post.
“First and far most I want to thank God for protecting my baby boy,” Erin wrote, according to The Athletic. “He is extremely lucky, God shielded him. He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to God it missed his vital organs.”
The suspect in the attempted robbery is a 17-year-old who was arrested at the scene of the crime after attempting to steal a Rolex watch from Pearsall.
Pearsall was drafted in the first round this year by San Francisco and missed the exhibition games with injuries to his shoulder and hamstring. The new NFL season opens this coming week.
