A security guard who allegedly allowed an intruder to storm onto the set of the "Today" show has been fired by NBC News. 

The intruder, who the New York Police Department identified as Andrew Truelove, managed to breach security and make his way onto the set on Thursday, where he allegedly lunged at host Craig Melvin and shouted a racial slur. Truelove allegedly asked for Al Roker, and when he couldn't find him, he confronted Melvin. 

Page Six reported that security video showed two guards on duty. In the video, one guard steps away, and the other fails to notice the intruder slipping inside the building. It's unclear which one of the guards was fired. There was no broadcast taking place during the intrusion, and no one was injured. 

The "Today" show released a statement after the incident, saying that "An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security." 

The trespasser was detained and taken into custody without further incident, the statement read.
