The carjacking occurred Monday when armed men approached Williams and his 78-year-old mother and forced them out of their SUV.
The Orleans Parish district attorney, whose campaign received support from Democratic billionaire George Soros, was carjacked at gunpoint alongside his mother.
Police have arrested at least one person in connection to the carjacking of Democratic District Attorney Jason Williams as of Wednesday, according to local outlets.
"I know why y'all are here, y'all's people had been got," 18-year-old suspect Raymond Rochon reportedly told police after his arrest, referring to how the city's top prosecutor was carjacked.
Other local agencies stated that a second person was also arrested in the carjacking after an investigation involving the New Orleans Police Department, the FBI and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Those reports could not immediately be verified.
The carjacking occurred Monday evening when armed men approached Williams and his 78-year-old mother and forced them out of their SUV.
"My mother is real shook up. She’s reliving it," Williams told a local Fox affiliate. "But we’re just thankful that we’re alive and nobody’s hurt."
Williams' 2020 election campaign, which focused on social justice, reportedly received support from Soros, who gave $220,000 to the Louisiana Justice and Public Safety PAC, according to Fox News Digital. The groups helped to fund advertisements against Williams' opponent, per the investigative think tank the Capital Research Center.
