Suspect in 8 murders in Chicago suburbs found dead in Texas from self-inflicted gunshot, police say
"I’ve been a policeman 29 years and this is probably the worst crime scene I’ve ever been associated with," Joliet Police Chief William Evans said.
The man suspected of fatally shooting eight people in the Chicago suburb of Joliet, Illinois, took his own life following a confrontation with Texas police officers, law enforcement said.
U.S. Marshals discovered Romeo Nance, 23, near Natalia, Texas, Monday evening, and he shot himself following a confrontation with Texas law enforcement officers, the Joliet Police Department said on Facebook.
Police began their search for Nance after finding eight people dead in three separate residences in the Chicago suburbs. The suspect knew the victims, but police said they did not know the motive, according to The Associated Press.
One person was discovered dead in a Will County home on Sunday, and the seven others were found Monday at two houses in Joliet. One of the homes was Nance's last known address, according to police.
The FBI's fugitive task force had been assisting in the search.
