Senegal native who killed 3, wounded 15 in Austin bar shooting motivated by support for Iran: FBI
Ndiaga Diaga, 53, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal, was wearing a T-shirt with an Iranian flag design, sweatshirt that read "Property of Allah."
The man whom the FBI says opened fire into an Austin, Texas, bar in March was motivated by his grievances over U.S. and Israeli military actions involving Iran.
The bureau reported Thursday that Ndiaga Diaga, 53, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal, admired deceased Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He fired shots from his vehicle into Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden just before 2 a.m. on March 1, wearing a T-shirt with an Iranian flag design on it and a sweatshirt that read "Property of Allah." =
However, Diaga, who died in an exchange of gunfire with Austin Police Department officers, acted alone. In addition, there is no evidence that he was associated with a Foreign Terrorist Organization "or that he received any direction, funding, or operational support for his attack, the FBI also said.
"While Diagne’s affinity for Iran and the Ayatollah were most certainly factors in his mobilization to violence, the FBI has not identified conclusive evidence to explain Diagne’s motivation or how and why he selected the location for his attack," the FBI also said.
Diagne fired shots into the beer garden from his vehicle.
