A 14-year-old boy allegedly killed eight students and a school security guard and wounded multiple other people when he opened fire in a Belgrade classroom on Wednesday morning, Serbia's interior ministry said.

A teacher and six children were hospitalized from the incident at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school, officials said.

The suspect was arrested in the schoolyard.

The last mass shooting in Serbia occurred in 2013, when a Balkan war veteran killed 13 people, according to The Associated Press.
