Actor Matthew McConaughey granted a restraining order against woman claiming to be his wife
McConaughey requested the restraining order because he was concerned the woman would physically harm him.
Actor Matthew McConaughey has been granted a five-year restraining order by a judge against a woman who has been claiming she is his "common law wife."
According to Fox News Digital, the woman sent McConaughey "unhinged" and threatening letters. She has reportedly said multiple times that she is in a relationship with him and at one point referred to herself as his "common law wife."
The woman claimed she co-authored McConaughey's book and also that she was hired to be his social media strategist but was never paid the $100,000 she was owed for the job.
McConaughey requested the restraining order because he was concerned the woman would physically harm him. She also allegedly sent a "threatening" email to a venue where he was having a book signing.
The restraining order will expire Oct. 19, 2028.
McConaughey's book is titled "Just Because" and it contains a series of poems.
"It’s about the poetry of life, instead of having the pressure on us that feels like we’re told every day that we need to be absolute about every single thing," McConaughey said, according to Fox News. "That’s not really life. Life’s much more poetic, odd, ironic. Once you admit all these contradictions, life becomes much more of a poem."
