British golfer Matt Fitzpatrick wins US Open, his first major title
He is the first player from outside of the United States to win the U.S. Open
British golfer Matt Fitzpatrick became the champion of the 122nd U.S. Open on Sunday, winning his first major championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Fitzpatrick, 27, had his first PGA Tour victory with -6, the BBC reported.
The PGA Tour official Twitter posted a video of Fitzpatrick smiling and going up to hug his mom after winning.
"I've felt sick since this morning. It's a great result. I did start to relax a bit on 18. It's just amazing. We're so fortunate," Fitzpatrick's mother, Sue, said after her son's victory.
Golf reporter Justin Ray observed that Fitzpatrick is the first player from outside of the United States to win the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur Championship.
