Denver Broncos fire head coach after 4-11 start to season
Nathaniel Hackett’s dismissal comes after a 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas.
The Denver Broncos on Monday fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett with two games left in the season after the team started 4-11.
Broncos Owner and CEO Greg Penner said that after extensive conversations with the general manager and the team's ownership group, "we determined a new direction would ultimately be in the best interest of the Broncos."
Penner is searching for a new coach after firing Hackett, who now holds the record for the shortest tenure of any non-interim NFL coach, ESPN reported.
Hackett, a first-year head coach, previously worked for three seasons as an offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
His dismissal comes after a 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas.
"This was an entire team loss. Nobody played good enough to win. It’s across the board, whether it’s offense or defense," Hackett said after the abysmal loss Sunday, The Associated Press reported. "Everybody’s got to do better."
The team is scheduled to hold a news conference Tuesday at noon ET.
