Musk gets behind call for Charlie Kirk to be TIME magazine's 'Person of the Year'
His death has also been credited with driving a resurgence in the conservative movement, with an increase in voters registering as Republicans in the days after the assassination.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk is getting behind a call for TIME magazine to make the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk its "Person of the Year."
Kirk, who was assassinated at an outdoor rally in Utah in September, is remembered for his staunch Christian faith and for founding the conservative grassroots organization Turning Point USA.
Musk, who was TIME's Person of the Year in 2021, replied "yes," Tuesday to a post on X that said Kirk should be given the title this year.
"Charlie Kirk should be the person of the year," the post Monday on X reads. "You can't change my mind."
The user also shared an image of Kirk along with the caption "We still remember, we're still fighting."
Kirk received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump last month.
Other notable recent TIME "Person of the Year" recipients include Trump, who received the title last year, musician Taylor Swift, who was given the title the year before that, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022.
The recipients are typically announced in the first two weeks of December.
