Kimmel extends contract with ABC through 2027 for his late-night show
The extension comes after “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was suspended for about a week in September
Late-night TV show host Jimmy Kimmel extended his contract with ABC through May 2027, after it was expected to expire in May 2026.
The extension comes after the TV host's show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” was suspended for about a week in September, following Kimmel's comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
Hours before ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney Co., announced the indefinite suspension, both Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, owners of ABC affiliates, said they would not air Kimmel’s show after his comments.
Kimmel returned to the air with an emotional monologue in which he defended free speech, but did not explicitly apologize for his comments. Sinclair had said an apology was a condition for his show to be aired again, but both Nexstar and Sinclair resumed airing the program shortly after he returned.
