New York Gov. Cuomo says he's urging sports teams to plan games without fans
"Yes I do want to watch the Bills, but that is not subverting my role as governor," Cuomo said.
Sports-starved Americans will likely rejoice to learn that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said that he has been urging sports teams to begin playing games again, albeit without fans lining the stands.
Cuomo said the games could be broadcast through television. He said New York would provide assistance to the athletic teams.
"I also have been encouraging major sports teams to plan reopenings without fans," Cuomo said. "But the games could be televised. New York state will help those major sports franchises to do just that. Hockey, basketball, baseball, football, whoever can reopen, we're a ready, willing and able partner."
The Buffalo Bills fan said that his desire to watch the team is not undermining his leadership as governor.
"Yes I do want to watch the Bills, but that is not subverting my role as governor," Cuomo said. "I think this is in the best interest of all the people and in the best interest of the state of New York, even though I do have a coincident personal agenda because I want to watch the Bills, but they are separate agendas. At least some would say I have a conflict of interest, I want to disclose it."
In addition to the Buffalo Bills, the state of New York is home to a number of sports teams, including the Knicks basketball team and the Yankees and Mets baseball teams.
