Djokovic confirms won't play in US Open due to USG restriction on non-COVID vaccinated guests
U.S. bars noncitizens from entering if they are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
Tennis star Novak Djokovic confirmed Thursday he won't be playing in next week's U.S. Open because of the country's restriction on allowing in visitors who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Good luck to my fellow players!" tweeted Djokovic, a top-ranked player who last month won his 7th title at Wimbledon, which like the Open is one of the sport's four major tournaments. "I'll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again."
Earlier this year, the Serbian star was denied entry into Australia despite being granted a COVID-19 vaccine medical exemption to compete in the Australian Open, another major, with the French Open being the fourth.
