Christian wireless carrier vows to keep supporting police despite rejected pizza donation
The Grapevine Police Department initially accepted the $1,500 gift certificate and said it would be used to host a staff pizza party.
The CEO of Patriot Mobile, a self-described "Christian wireless provider," said his company would continue to support law enforcement after a Texas police department rejected the phone provider's donation of a $1,500 gift certificate for pizza.
"We expect the attacks because we stand up for what we believe in," CEO Glenn Story told The Washington Times on Monday. "We’re going to keep donating to the police. We’re still going to support first responders."
Patriot Mobile, based in Grapevine, Texas, donated the gift certificate earlier this month to the local police department. The Grapevine Police Department initially accepted the gift and said it would be used to host a staff pizza party.
Two days later, the department said it would "donate the food to a true need" and reevaluate how it receives future donations. The change came after some online users criticized law enforcement for accepting the gift from the conservative Christian company.
Story said the decision to reject the donation was the result of "one woke chief of police."
"It’s not what the majority of the police in that department think," he also said. "It’s not the majority what the people in this community think, either. I think that there’s a very small minority that make a lot of noise."
