Rich Strike, an 80-1 long shot, raced past favorite Epicenter on the final stretch Saturday evening to score one of the biggest upsets in Kentucky Derby history.

Jockey Sonny Leon, riding in his first Derby, galloped Rich Strike to the winner’s circle in the first leg of the Triple Crown. It was only the second win of First Strike’s career.

“I about fell down in the paddock when he hit the wire,” winning trainer Eric Reed told The Associated Press. “I about passed out.”
