Team USA was eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup Monday night after a devastating 4-1 loss to Belgium in the round of 16.

The United States' sole point in the match in Seattle was scored by Malik Tilman in the first half of the game. Belgium scored two points in the first half of the game, one in the second half and one point in added time.

The U.S.' elimination in the round of 16 means that all three of the host countries in the 2026 World Cup have been eliminated in the same round. Canada lost its match against Morocco on Saturday and Mexico lost its game to England on Sunday.

The team's loss comes despite playing its lead striker Folarin Balogun, who was initially suspended from the match because of a red card penalty in the U.S.' match against Bosnia and Herzegovina last week. He was given the red card for stepping on an opponent's leg while reaching for position.

He was later allowed to play after FIFA announced that it had reversed the punishment, citing Article 27 of its disciplinary code as the reason. Reversals of previous penalties are rare but not unprecedented.

Belgium will now play Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday.
