Annual inflation was 4.2% in May: Labor Department

May's inflation rate was 0.5% higher than April's

The cost of goods and services increased in May by 4.2%, compared to 12 months earlier, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.

The agency's Consumer Price Index number was in line with Wall Street expectations but was the highest since early 2023, according to NBC News.

May's inflation rate was 0.5% higher than April's, the bureau also reports.
