Dow soars as U.S. efforts to contain coronavirus are announced
The U.S. stock market jumped up on Friday afternoon as the president announced $50 billion aid package
The Dow soared Friday, following President Trump's announcement about more federal money and other support to contain the outbreak of the coronavirus. Stocks on U.S. markets have regained a majority of recent losses, following a record dip on Thursday.
In an address from the Rose Garden, President Trump announced a $50-billion aid package toward combating the spread of the novel virus. Roughly 1,000 points were regained by the index throughout the duration of the president's address. By the closing bell, the Dow has gained 1,985 points.
The Dow gained 1,200 points Friday morning at opening, then went into a slow decline before the speech, continuing volatile global market trends amid fears over the novel coronavirus.
U.S. futures were up this morning – Dow futures were up 1,100 points following a 10% plunge yesterday.
On Thursday, Wall Street suffered its worst day since the “Black Monday” crash of 1987.
