Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs says deficit spending needs to stop in Washington DC
Biggs said that default will not occur on June 1 despite what Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says.
Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs says that in order to get spending under control in Washington D.C., deficit spending needs to end.
"We have a structural spending deficit every month in excess of $100 billion on average," Biggs said on Tuesday's "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "So we need to stop deficit spending."
Earlier this week, President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had a meeting to discuss the debt ceiling, but did not reach a deal. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has told Congress they must raise the federal government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling by June 1 to avoid default.
Biggs said that default will not occur on June 1.
"The first thing I want to dispel is we're not going to default on June 1," he said. "And we're not going to default even if you don't raise the debt ceiling. We're going to have one of our biggest months of revenue in the month of June."
Biggs later added that another issue is the Biden administration not wanting to make any spending cuts.
"The second thing is this administration does not want to make reductions at all," he continued. "They're more interested in creating a chaotic situation and crafting a narrative."
