Coffee shop mega-chain Starbucks is set to close approximately 250 of its stores in the coming days.

After publication, Starbucks reached out to highlight that the 250 stores represent approximately 1% of more than 18,000 stores.

"Closing any coffeehouse is a difficult decision, and we know today’s news will be hard for the partners, customers and communities affected," COO Mike Grams wrote in a letter to partners obtained by Fox Business.

Specifically, the 250 stores set for closure either faced significant financial hardship or were locations "where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners."

The company announced the layoff of 300 corporate employees in May.
