Top economist says Super Bowl prices are skyrocketing due to inflation
According to Earl, that is a 93% increase from Super Bowl tickets in 2023.
Senior Economist for the American Institute for Economic Research Dr. Peter Earle wrote a piece breaking down price increases for the Super Bowl, including the average price tickets, lodging, and food.
"Stubhub is reporting tickets ranging from $5,300 to $107,000, with the average price paid around $9,500," he wrote in his piece titled "Inflation Already Ruined Your Super Bowl Party."
According to Earle, that is a 93% increase from Super Bowl tickets in 2023.
"Prices to attend the Super Bowl this year have taken a turn towards the surreal," Earle said on the Wednesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "The average tickets averaging in the neighborhood of $10,000, with some particular choice seats, are changing hands over $100,000. Hotel rooms that usually go for 100 or 200 bucks will be over $1,500."
He added that those who watch the football game at home won't be able to escape the high prices.
"Determining the average price of a delivery pizza is more difficult," Earle wrote in his article. "In local contexts, the price of a slice of pizza can act as an inflationary benchmark of sorts, but estimates indicate that from February 2023 to February 2024 the price of an average delivery pizza has increased from $17.81 to $18.33, or 2.9 percent."
He predicted on the "Just the News, No Noise" show that inflation will play a big factor in the 2024 election because of these widespread high prices.
