US economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, more than analysts expected
The annualized unemployment rate for last month was 4.4%, relatively unchanged from January.
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that the U.S. economy lost 92,000 non-farm jobs in February, unexpectedly more than Wall Street analysts had expected.
The unemployment rate for last month of 4.4%, compared to the same time last year, was relatively unchanged from January's annualized rate of 4.3%.
The loss of jobs in February is being attributed in large part to severe winter weather and a strike at a major health care provider, according to CNBC.
Wall Street estimated 50,000 jobs would be lost. February marked the third time in the past five months that payrolls declined, the cable business news network also reports.
