U.S. airman suffers life-threatening injuries after setting himself on fire near Israeli Embassy
U.S. Secret Service members had extinguished the man, a spokesperson for the agency said.
A U.S airman was hospitalized in critical condition after he set himself on fire Sunday afternoon outside of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., officials said.
D.C. Fire Department and EMS officials responded to the embassy shortly before 1 p.m. and discovered a man with burn injuries, per The Hill. The injuries were critical and life-threatening and he is being treated at a local hospital.
The U.S. Air Force confirmed Sunday evening that the victim was an active duty airman. authorities gave no motive for why the man said himself on fire.
U.S. Secret Service members had extinguished the fire engulfing the man, a spokesperson for the agency told The Independent.
Officers did not state whether the incident was related to a protest of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
