A man who vanished from his Connecticut home nearly a decade ago was found dead by police less than two hours away from where he was last seen, police said.

Robert Hoagland “was last seen on Sunday morning, July 28th, 2013” in Newtown, Ct., Newtown police said in a press release.

On Monday of this week, police in Sullivan County, New York reached out to Newtown police to notify the latter that the “untimely death” of a man in the town of Rock Hill may have been that of Hoagland.

The police departments subsequently confirmed the decedent as Hoagland.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine Hoagland’s cause of death, but “there were no signs of foul play” associated with the body.

Newtown police said they would “not plan to release any further information” about the case “as there was no criminal aspect” to Hoagland’s initial disappearance.
