Border Patrol captures previously deported child sex offender after he re-enters U.S.
He's not the only previously deported sex offender caught in the U.S. this February
U.S. Border Patrol agents this week apprehended a Mexican man with a record of multiple deportations and a conviction in California for a sex crime against a minor.
The 37-year-old was arrested along with two other Mexican males who were in the country illegally. He had a 2006 conviction in California for “Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14” and was deported after serving time in prison, officials said.
The man had been removed from the country on other occasions, but the U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release does not specify the exact number of deportations, it only states that he had “several prior deportations.”
San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke praised Border Patrol agents for protecting Americans.
“I am proud of the great work agents demonstrated in arresting this child predator,” he said. “Their vigilance prevented this dangerous person from illegally re-entering our communities.”
Agents on February 16 apprehended Lorenzo Nino-Gomez, a Mexican man who had previously been convicted for three counts of sexual penetration of a minor. He had been previously deported according to CBP.
“In fiscal year 2020, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 25 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges after they entered the United States illegally,” according to a CBP press release posted on February 18.
El Centro is just one of twenty border sectors.
