Five people including child killed in western Pennsylvania home explosion
At least 18 fire departments worked together to extinguish the fires that sparked from the explosion.
Five people including an adolescent died this past weekend in a home explosion in western Pennsylvania, according to authorities.
Plum Borough Police Chief Lanny Conley said the blast occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in his jurisdiction, about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh, according to The Associated Press.
The explosion destroyed three structures, damaged at least a dozen others and injured three people, officials said.
Two of the injured were treated and released from a hospital, and the third remains in critical condition, said Steve Imbarlina, deputy director of Allegheny County Fire and Emergency Services.
Additionally, 57 firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
First-responders reported that people were trapped under debris in a home was leveled by the explosion and two other houses were engulfed in an inferno.

The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined. Imbarlina also said the probe will be a "long and slow process" that could last "months if not years."
