Colorado city starts taking action after Venezuelan gang takes over apartment buildings
Earlier this week, a video went viral of the armed Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua taking over apartment buildings in Aurora, where the Police Department confirmed that the gang leader is in custody.
The mayor of Aurora, Colorado, announced Friday that action was being taken by clearing apartment buildings that a Venezuelan gang has taken over. Aurora is Colorado's third largest city and Denver's largest suburb.
Earlier this week, a video went viral of the armed Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua taking over apartment buildings in Aurora.
"The Aurora City Attorney's Office is preparing court documents to request an emergency court order to clear the apartment buildings where Venezuelan gang activity has been occurring by declaring the properties a 'Criminal Nuisance,'" Mayor Mike Coffman wrote on Facebook.
"This will require a municipal judge to issue the order with the goal of getting these properties back under the control of the property owners," the post continued. "In the meantime, the law enforcement task force set up to disrupt and arrest Venezuelan gang members in these buildings will continue its operation. I strongly believe that the best course of action is to shut these building[s] down and make sure that this never happens again."
The Aurora Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that the gang leader is currently in custody.
As of now it is unclear when the apartment buildings will be fully cleared.
