A confirmation hearing for Trump's pick for surgeon general, Dr. Nicole Saphier, is scheduled for Wednesday. 

Saphier, a radiologist and former Fox News contributor, will appear before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.

Trump nominated Saphier in April after his first nominee, Dr. Casey Means, failed to get enough support in the Senate to be confirmed, the New York Times reported. 

Saphier, director of breast imaging at a New Jersey branch of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, would bring an extensive medical and wellness background to the role. She started a supplement company and hosted a podcast where she mixes Western medicine with Eastern techniques and natural remedies. 

In 2020, Saphier wrote a book with "Make America Healthy Again" in the title, long before Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. used the slogan. Among other criticisms, she has questioned Kennedy's approach to addressing autism and his department's hiring of David Geier, a prominent anti-vaccine activist, to be involved in the autism work.

The Senate is expected to confirm her to the role.
