Texas AG Paxton reaches deal to have security fraud charges against him dropped
This agreement happened just weeks before he was supposed to face a jury.
Texas GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton reached an agreement with prosecutors on Tuesday to have the security fraud charges against him dropped after nine years.
This agreement happened just weeks before he was supposed to face a jury.
Part of Paxton's deal is that he has to complete 100 hours of community service and take 15 hours of legal ethics courses, according to a local Texas outlet.
He also has to pay about $270,000 in restitution to his accusers.
Paxton was indicted in 2015 over failing to tell investors in a technology firm that he had financial interest in the firm before persuading them to buy in.
Paxton agreed to the deal, but did not admit any guilt.
"It was a case on day one we knew they couldn't prove, and on year nine we still knew they couldn't prove. Ken's not guilty," Paxton's lawyer said, according to the outlet.
