Texas attorney general sues second doctor for allegedly providing transgender care to minors
Paxton accused Dr. Hector M. Granados, a pediatric endocrinologist, of providing puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy to a total of 21 minors from April 2023 through August 2024.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday sued another doctor for allegedly providing transgender medical care to over 20 minors in El Paso, thus violating state law.
The Texas Supreme Court upheld a state law in June that bans gender-affirming care for transgender minors, including access to puberty blockers, and transition surgery. The law was enacted in September 2023.
Paxton accused Dr. Hector M. Granados, a pediatric endocrinologist, of providing puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy to a total of 21 minors from April 2023 through August 2024. He also accused the doctor of purposely falsifying “medical records, prescriptions, and billing records” to evade prosecution.
“Texas is cracking down on doctors illegally prescribing dangerous ‘gender transition’ drugs to children,” Paxton said in a statement Wednesday. “State law forbids prescribing these interventions to minors because they have irreversible and damaging effects. Any physician found doing so will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
The lawsuit comes after Paxton sued a doctor in Dallas earlier this month on the same allegations. The Dallas doctor, identified as Dr. May Chi Lau, allegedly provided hormone-replacement therapy to 21 minors between October 2023 and August 2024. Lau also allegedly used "false diagnoses and billing codes" to hide illegal prescriptions.
