Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued a doctor in Dallas on Thursday, who allegedly provided transgender care to 21 minors, despite a state law prohibiting them from doing so.

The Texas Supreme Court upheld a state law in June that bans gender-affirming care for transgender minors, including access to puberty blockers, and transition surgery. But the Dallas doctor, identified as Dr. May Chi Lau, allegedly provided hormone-replacement therapy to 21 minors between October 2023 and August 2024. The law was initially enacted in 2023.

Paxton claimed the doctor, who specializes in adolescent medicine, used "false diagnoses and billing codes" to hide illegal prescriptions, according to NBC News.

“Texas passed a law to protect children from these dangerous unscientific medical interventions that have irreversible and damaging effects,” Paxton said in a statement. “Doctors who continue to provide these harmful ‘gender transition’ drugs and treatments will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
