Charlie Kirk says he will 'bend the knee' to Twitter, delete tweet that got him locked out

Just two weeks before a national election, conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been locked out of his Twitter account for "spreading misinformation" after he tweeted a story from ProPublica about mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania that contained information that was corrected hours after publishing. 

Kirk, who has 1.85 million followers on the popular social media platform, has been unable to access his account since this past weekend. He told Fox News he was in a "hostage situation" with the company, which will not let him back into his account unless he deletes the original tweet.

On Tuesday, Kirk told David Brody that ultimately he thinks he will have to "bend the knee" to Twitter, and delete the tweet in order to gain access to his widely-followed account during a critical political moment. 

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, believes he will have to concede this battle to win the war being waged against conservative media accounts by what he calls the "Silicon Valley government."  

"I think the Silicon Valley government is disturbingly more powerful than even our own government," Kirk told Brody on Tuesday's episode of "The Water Cooler." 

At the time of Kirk's initial lockout, a spokesman for Turning Point USA told Newsweek:

"Charlie makes every effort to tweet accurate information and to share stories he thinks his followers should know about. Far from spreading misinformation, he was sharing widely reported information at the time, information that was only later updated by certain outlets hours later. In this instance the original reporting by some outlets referenced 372k ballots had been rejected in Pennsylvania. This was later updated to 372k 'applications' for ballots. Charlie was only made aware of the change when his account was locked out."

Kirk is the latest victim of the social media site's targeted lockouts. Last week, Twitter locked out the account of the New York Post after it ran a story critical of Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine. Over the weekend, White House adviser Dr. Scott Atlas was locked out because of a tweet he wrote that was critical of mask mandates.
