Goldman Sachs banned most of its staff from using advanced artificial intelligence tools following a review of production and risk concerns.

After months of allowing its bankers to use Anthropic PBC’s Claude Code and Microsoft Corp.’s GitHub for work, Goldman is now limiting their use to engineers only, Bloomberg News reported, citing internal guidance that was updated in October.

The ban has frustrated some traders who say they were able to improve their productivity with some aspects of their work, such as monitoring client trading flows, modeling market changes and positions, and creating written and graphic content, an unnamed source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Goldman Chief Information Officer Marco Argenti has praised the use of AI by non-technical employees at the firm, saying that those staff members had created solutions with AI tools, which were passed onto the firm's engineers to improve.
