Zuckerberg apologizes to families who had children victimized by social media

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday apologized to families that have had children victimized or harmed by social media during his testimony before Congress.

"Let me ask you this," Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said to Zuckerberg. "There's families of victims here today. Have you apologized to the victims? Would you like to do so now? They're here. You're on national television. Would you like now to apologize to the victims who have been harmed by your product?"

Zuckerberg later stood up, turned his back to the lawmakers questioning him and faced the families in the room where he said, "I'm sorry."

”The things that your families have suffered and this is why we invest so much and we are going to continue doing industry wide efforts to make sure no one has to go through the things your families have had to suffer,” he added, according to The Hill.

At one point, Hawley also told Zuckerberg that his products were "killing people.”

Zuckerberg spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is holding a hearing on Big Tech preventing online child sexual exploitation.

Other CEOs testifying include Jason Citron of Discord and Linda Yaccarino of X.
