Two children dead, infant in critical condition amid illegal border crossing: report
Children were reportedly with large group crossing border
Two immigrant children are reportedly dead and an infant in critical condition following several illegal attempts by migrants to cross the Rio Grande into the United States, news stations reported this week.
Fox 29 out of San Antonia said in a Tuesday report that officials pulled the body of a three-year-old out of the river and rescued an infant in the water nearby; the three-year-old was lost while the infant was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition after authorities performed lifesaving treatment on it.
In El Paso, meanwhile, ABC 7 reported that a five-year-old girl drowned in the Rio while attempting to cross with her mother.
The mother survived. Mexican broadcasts showed rescuers pulling the young girl's body from the river.
Both incidents stemmed from larger groups of illegal immigrants attempting to unlawfully cross the U.S border, officials said.
