Organizers of Islamic retreat attended by NYC mayor's wife made anti-Israel statements online
“The apartheid colonial state of Israel has committed a genocide against the Palestinian people,” the Women Sanctuary said in an October 2025 Instagram post.
The group that organized an upscale, Islamic-centered women's retreat where New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's wife Rama Duwaji served as "artist-in-residence" called for the destruction of Israel in Instagram posts.
The group demanded that "Palestine" be cleansed of its "oppressors" in a series of social media posts, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
“The apartheid colonial state of Israel has committed a genocide against the Palestinian people,” the Women Sanctuary said in an October 2025 Instagram post, which went on to say, "Abolish the colonial apartheid state of Israel. Free Palestine."
The Women Sanctuary is the organization hosting the “Journey through Islamic Calligraphy” retreat being attended by Duwaji in Porto, Portugal.
A post from September 2024 provided a prayer to Allah that asked for the "liberation of Palestine." A post from March 2025 stated: “May the winds of freedom sweep across Palestine, ushering in the complete and rightful restoration of the land’s true stewards," the New York Post reported.
