South Carolina Congressman Ralph Norman says that “it is so disappointing to go through what we did in January, to get assurances from [Speaker Kevin McCarthy], that he was going to do these things that would bring this country back to fiscal sanity.” The Freedom Caucus member says that Republican had a “modest plan” that all 218 Republicans supported, “then all the sudden to be told [by leadership], ‘this is what was negotiated on a night call of the Republican caucus, take it or leave it, this is the best we could do,’ it’s unacceptable.” Norman says “the good news is we’re going to continue to fight and the saga will continue next week and weeks from here on out until we either make some headway or we don’t.” When asked if Speaker McCarthy can regain the trust of the block of conservative Republicans, Norman responds, “it’s up to him,” “he is going to have to decide if he wants to gain the trust of the faction of the Republican Party or if he’s going to cut deals with Democrats and pass everything with Democrats from here on out, the choice is his.”
