Arizona launches manhunt for man who threatened to kill Trump as former president visits state
The search comes just over a month after an assassination attempt against Trump took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Arizona authorities launched a manhunt on Thursday for a suspect who allegedly threatened to kill former President Donald Trump at his rally in the state.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office has identified 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syrvud as an "investigative lead" for the threats.
The search comes just over a month after an assassination attempt against Trump took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Cochise Sheriff's office said the suspect does not have any "known ties" to the Pennsylvania shooter, according to Fox News.
Not much is known about the suspect, but he has outstanding arrest warrants in Wisconsin for Driving Under the Influence. He is also wanted in Arizona for a hit-and-run, and a felony failure to register as a sex offender.
The Secret Service confirmed to Fox that it was aware of the situation in Arizona and is monitoring the manhunt.
Trump is still expected to campaign in Cochise County later Thursday as part of his tour of swing states. Trump lost Arizona to President Joe Biden in 2020, but is hoping to flip the state in November.
