Former first son Donald Trump Jr. said he and his 17-year-old daughter Kai were out fishing when they heard the news of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

"She was with me when I got the call about my father," Trump Jr. said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show on Thursday.

He explained that he got a call from his daughter saying that she wanted to go fishing with him.

"We were out on the boat, and so she was with me for the 90 minutes of that unknown," Trump Jr. said.

Over the weekend, Trump was shot in the ear and was escorted off stage at a rally in Butler, Penn.

Kai spoke at the Republican National Convention earlier this week, saying she wanted to talk about her supportive grandfather.

"She's a great competitive golfer," Trump Jr. said, referring to his daughter Kai. "So she's with my dad all the time. They play together every weekend, and so they have a really good relationship."
