First son Donald Trump Jr. said Thursday that he is not surprised someone tried to assassinate his father over the weekend and pointed out that others had predicted it might happen.

"Tucker Carlson said, 'of course, they're going to try to assassinate him,'" Trump Jr. said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "And I was like ... you think that's out of the realm?"

He said that radio host Dan Bongino predicted it also.

Over the weekend, someone tried to assassinate the 45th president in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear and was escorted off stage.

"Yet another conspiracy theory that turned out to be 100% true," Trump Jr. said.

He pointed the finger at Democrats for various attempts to hamper Trump, including impeachments and lawsuits against his businesses, calling the shooting "the natural progression" of those efforts. He also pointed to the strong language historically used against Trump, including comparisons to Hitler.

Trump is expected to take the stage this evening at the Republican National Convention. His granddaughter Kai and Trump Jr. gave speeches the night prior.

He said that what draws people to his father is that he understands people and can convey that.

"He was better at being a builder because he hung out with the construction workers, not the architects," he said, referring to Trump. "You know what I mean? Like he spent time with those guys, so he always got it."
