Donald Trump speaks on assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump on Monday night addressed the thwarted second assassination attempt during a conversation on an X Space.

Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested on Sunday and charged on Monday for the alleged assassination attempt. Routh allegedly stalked the former president at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday and had aimed his gun at Trump before he was spotted by Secret Service. No shots were fired by Routh.

Trump praised the Secret Service's performance in thwarting the planned attack, saying they did an "excellent job."

"I was playing golf with some of my friends who was on a Sunday morning, and very peaceful, very beautiful weather. Everything was beautiful. It was nice place to be," Trump said in an X spaces conversation. "All of a sudden we heard shots being fired in the air, and I guess probably four or five, and it sounded like bullets. But what do I know about that? But Secret Service knew immediately it was bullets, and they grabbed me.

"Everybody just we got into the carts, and we moved along pretty, pretty good. I was with an agent, and the agent did a fantastic job," he added.
