Donald Trump nominates Herschel Walker for ambassador to the Bahamas

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday night nominated former Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker for U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas. 

Trump has spent the past six weeks since he was elected back to the White House by filling out his Cabinet and other key roles in his administration. Other recent ambassador picks include Kimberly Guilfoyle for ambassador to Greece, and former ambassador to El Salvador Ronald Johnson for ambassador to Mexico.

The former president praised Walker as a man who has spent decades as an ambassador to children, military servicemembers, and athletes around the world. Walker played as a running back in the NFL for 12 seasons.

"A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "Congratulations Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!"

The former NFL pro has also served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition during Trump's first administration, and has been a major advocate in removing the stigma of mental health in the military. 

Walker also ran for the Senate in Georgia in 2022, but lost Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Trump additionally nominated art collector and businesswoman Nicole McGraw as U.S. Ambassador to Croatia.
