The Interior Department said that the algae at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was killed by the "advanced nanobubbler technology" that was installed during the renovation, and it is being vacuumed up. Algae has been a problem ever since the pool was constructed in the 1920s.

Images show that green algae has appeared again in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, shortly after the Trump administration completed renovations at the site.

A spokesperson for the Interior Department told The Hill that the algae is all dead as a result of the "advanced nanobubbler technology" that was installed during the renovation. The dead algae, according to the department, is being vacuumed up.

The pool was built in the early 1920s and has had continuing problems with cracks, leaks and algae bloom. The Trump administration initiated a $13 million renovation effort that resurfaced the bottom of the pool with what President Trump called the "latest and greatest filament" and an "American flag blue" color.

The project is among several that seek to overhaul and beautify the nation's capital. Trump has also pursued the construction of a White House ballroom, a triumphal arch, and a pedestrian promenade linking the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River.

The projects have received considerable partisan opposition, as well as lawsuits
