Judge fines Trump $9,000 for violating gag order in hush money case

Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday fined former President Donald Trump for violating a gag order in the hush money case in New York.

The judge held Trump in criminal contempt for nine violations related to some of his posts on Truth Social. Each violation is a $1,000 penalty.

The gag order prohibits Trump from "making or directing others to make public statements about known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding," and "public statements about any prospective juror or any juror."
