Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has declared victory at the first presidential debate.

“Tonight President Trump delivered the greatest debate performance and victory in history to the largest voter audience in history, making clear exactly how he will improve the lives of every American," the campaign said in an emailed statement.

President Joe Biden and Trump squared off in the first presidential debate of 2024, which was televised on CNN and moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

Trump's campaign said that Biden showed why he deserved to be fired.

“Joe Biden on the other hand showed exactly why he deserves to be fired. Despite taking a week-long vacation at Camp David to prepare for the debate, Biden was unable to defend his disastrous record on the economy and the border," the campaign said.

Trump spent most of his time during the debate talking about the border and the failure of the Biden administration's policies regarding illegal immigration.
