Trump campaign gloats as Project 2025 director reportedly to step down
The Trump campaign had repeatedly insisted that Project 2025 was not affiliated with the former president's reelection bid.
The Trump campaign on Tuesday indicated it would welcome news of the "demise" of Project 2025, a presidential transitional project from the Heritage Foundation that Trump opponents have attempted to present as representative of his own stances.
Paul Dans, the Project 2025 director, will reportedly step down from the post at the end of the month, Politico reported, citing "internal email to staff and one person familiar with the matter." The Trump campaign had repeatedly insisted that Project 2025 was not affiliated with the former president's reelection bid.
"President Trump’s campaign has been very clear for over a year that Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign, did not speak for the campaign, and should not be associated with the campaign or the President in any way," said campaign senior advisors Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita. "Reports of Project 2025’s demise would be greatly welcomed and should serve as notice to anyone or any group trying to misrepresent their influence with President Trump and his campaign— it will not end well for you."
Despite Dans' stepping down, however, the project is expected to continue.
