Trump campaign says latest indictment is reminiscent of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union
The campaign said these indictments would not stop Trump from being reelected in 2024.
Former President Donald Trump's campaign put out a statement Tuesday about the latest indictment, saying that it is reminiscent of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.
"The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes," the campaign statement reads. "President Trump has always followed the law and the Constitution, with advice from many highly accomplished attorneys."
The 45th president was indicted as part of a special counsel Jack Smith's federal grand jury probe into his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results and the former president's role in the subsequent Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Trump was charged with four counts, including conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
The campaign said in the statement that these indictments would not stop Trump from being re-elected in 2024.
"These un-American witch hunts will fail and President Trump will be re-elected to the White House so he can save our Country from the abuse, incompetence, and corruption that is running through the veins of our Country at levels never seen before," the campaign statement continued.
This is Trump's second federal indictment, and third total.
